Tinnitus can arise in any of the following areas: the outer ear, the middle ear, the inner ear, or by abnormalities in the brain. Some tinnitus or head noise is normal. If one goes into a sound proof booth and normal outside noise is diminished, one becomes aware of these normal sounds. We are usually not aware of these normal body sounds, because outside noise masks them. Anything, such as wax or a foreign body in the external ear, that blocks these background sounds will cause us to be more aware of our own head sounds. Fluid, infection, or disease of the middle ear bones or ear drum (tympanic membrane) can also cause tinnitus.
One of the most common causes of tinnitus is damage to the microscopic endings of the hearing nerve in the inner ear. Advancing age is generally accompanied by a certain amount of hearing nerve impairment, and consequently tinnitus. Today, loud noise exposure is a very common cause of tinnitus, and it often damages hearing as well. Unfortunately, many people are unconcerned about the harmful effects of excessively loud noise, firearms, and high intensity music. Some medications (for example, aspirin) and other diseases of the inner ear (Meniere's syndrome) can cause tinnitus. Tinnitus can in very rare situations be a symptom of such serious problems as an aneurysm or a brain tumor (acoustic tumor).
According to the American Tinnitus Association there are several things you can do to protect yourself from excessive noise related tinnitus:
a.. Protect your hearing at work. Your work place should follow Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) regulations. Wear ear plugs or earmuffs and follow hearing conservation guidelines set by your employer.
b.. When around any noise that bothers your ears (a concert, sporting event, hunting) wear hearing protection or reduce noise levels.
c.. Even everyday noises, such as blow drying your hair or using a lawnmower, can require protection. Keep ear plugs or earmuffs handy for these activities.
Some otolaryngologists have recommended niacin to treat tinnitus. However, there is no scientific evidence to suggest that niacin helps reduce tinnitus, and it may cause problems with skin flushing. (Being that Niacin is mentioned, Young Living has the best Vit. B., Super B. Take Super B after Breakfast to keep from getting a niacin flush). If you are taking Vit. E. discontinue as it has been stated that seems to cause the ringing in the ears.

Testimonials:
My aunt was diagnosed with middle-ear infection, both by her GP and a Chinese Traditional Medicine Practitioner after she started vomiting and experiencing nausea every time she tried to walk. It was really debilitating, but the doctors could only advise her to rest and wait it out. To make matters worst, she started hearing a continuous ringing in the ear as well.
At the time, I had read about the wonderful properties of Helichrysum oil, but only had the Brain Power oil blend that contained it. So I showed my aunt how to apply a drop of Brain Power on the ear lobe as instructed in the Essential Oils Desk Reference. I also added Thieves oil blend in front and behind the ear for the infection. Just in case the symptoms were due to infected kidneys, I also advised her to apply some Thieves on her back in the area around the kidneys. She was to repeat the procedure again that night.
The next day, I called to inquire how my aunt was doing and was pleasantly surprised to learn that as soon as she applied the Brain Power a second time, the ringing noise instantly stopped, plus the nausea also disappeared!
Since that time, I have helped 2 other people with Tinnitus, once with Brain Power again and once with PanAway (because I had ran out of Brain Power). It seems that as long as the blend had Helichrysum in it, it was still effective.

My husband was diagnosed with Meniers Vertigo nearly 6 years ago. He has had ringing and a static echo-like sound in his left ear since. Recently he started rubbing geranium and rose behind his ear lobe & on the bone, and geranium, peppermint and lavender neet on his toe tips. The first time he tried the oils and within 15 minutes, he noticed the static-echo sound was nearly gone. It does return, but doing this routine 2 times/day the sound has consistently been lower.
A week later I purchased Helichrysum, following the steps in the Essential Oil Desk Reference with one drop on a cotton ball in the ear at night. The following day my husband realized for a time (15-20 minutes that he was aware of), the mid-ear ringing was completely gone! As he continues to practice these routines with the oils daily, the ringing has been consistently lower. As suggested in one of the testimonials, he is also using Helichrysum behind the ear lobe at the bone, and now apply's that oil first on toe tips and then geranium and peppermint. Needless to say...we are quite pleased to have discovered the benefits of the oils. Teresa Capaldo, Ca.
My 2 year old grandson had gotten a nasty cold from daycare kids. We got the cough and fever under control with Thieves and diffusing Purification in the vaporizer but he woke up from his nap one afternoon pulling on his ears and saying "ear ouch". The whining began and his Mother was beside herself. Oils to the rescue. We decided to take a tablespoon of warm olive oil and 5 drops of Melrose, mix it together and place about 5 drops right in each ear canal and stuff it with a small cotton ball. Of course he didn't leave the cotton in very long but the oil did its job. The next morn. no more complaining about ear ouch and it was truly amazing what came out of his little ear over night and the next day. As well as clearing up the ear ache, it cleaned out all of the wax build up and his little ears have been clean as a whistle since and he has been a happy little boy (that is, as much as 2 year olds are!). Five drops of Melrose, or a Dr visit and a week of antibiotics what a wonderful alternative!!!!! Pat
My adult son had pain and swelling of the ear. He had no medical insurance and was between jobs. We put Thieves Oil around his ear but not in it. After a day or two the pain increased and the swelling continued so it was time to try the oils in a capsule. I took Thieves, Oregano, and Frankincense in a capsule and gave that to him 3 times a day. The start of the second day we could see the swelling going down and his pain level decreased. By the third day he was back to normal. We continued for a few more days to make sure all bacteria was killed off, he has been fine since. Charla Sirtoff
I had a ear infection come on this winter and I took 1 capsule full of Exodus II and applied Melrose around the ear like explained above
then I applied Copaiba as it enhances the action of the oil you use it with and the ear infection was gone the next morning. Nancy Sanderson
Did you know that the oils are the catalyst of the delivery system within the supplements?
