I have a new granddaughter that was born 4 weeks premature. She is now
1 month old. She is a true miracle. No health problems at the time of her birth.
About a week ago she had stopped feeding from her mother. This went for
12 hours. The doctors said everything looked fine and for my daughter to
continue trying to nurse. A few days ago we noticed that the baby's bowel
movements were not as frequent as before and finally they stopped. She has
been cranky and would only drink about an ounce at a time. I resorted to my
Sicilian Grandmother's recipe of making some fennel water. While the baby
was eager to drink the fennel water, nothing was happening with her bowels.
I remembered reading the recent post about applying Frankincense oil to the
baby's abdomen.
I took about 6 drops of Frankincense and mixed it with about 10 drops of
extra virgin olive oil. My daughter and I rested the baby on the bed with a towel
underneath her. I rubbed the oil on her abdomen in a clockwise motion. In
about 5 minutes she began to tense up and starting crying immensely. The
sweet baby started to push with her feet against my daughters hand and then
the baby was able to have a small bowel movement. We then put her in her
baby tub filled with warm water for about 10 minutes. She cried and tensed
several times. After she was taken out of the tub and dressed loosely, I once
again applied the oil mixture to her abdomen. In another 5 minutes she
passed her bowels again. We did this a couple more time and had the same
results.
Finally, the baby stopped tensing and was quiet. She began to smile and
respond to our talking to her and soon started to fall asleep. The rest of the
evening has been a good one for her.
While this may not work for every baby, it did assist my beautiful new
grandbaby. Hope this will be of some help to others. Always remember that
consulting with the pediatrician is also important.
God Bless,
Nikki
Editors' note: Over the years I've heard many stories of new mothers using
an essential oil to help a newborn whose bowels weren't working yet, or
were clogged up for some reason. I would recommend YL's V6 massage
oil rather than olive oil, as the V6 is a wonderful mixture of several oils
from coconut to grape seed, and it's not heavy like extra virgin olive oil.
