After you read the following information, you decide - and if you, like our family, would always rather err on the side of caution, I have some tips at the end.
March 13, 2006 - - In a remarkable speech over the weekend, Secretary of Health and Human Services Michael Leavitt recommended that Americans start storing canned tuna and powdered milk under their beds as the prospect of a deadly bird flu outbreak approaches the United States.
Ready or not, here it comes. It is being spread much faster than first predicted from one wild flock of birds to another, an airborne delivery system that no government can stop.
"There's no way you can protect the
● In 1957-58 the "Asian bird flu" - Type A (H2N2) caused 70,000 deaths in the US.
● In 1968-69 the "Hong Kong bird flu" - Type A (H3N2) caused 34,000 deaths in the US. It has been responsible for repeated epidemics causing hundreds of thousands of deaths of elderly people in the US alone.
Dr. Osterholm - a leading expert in bird flu explains, "If this new strain of bird flu is anything like the 1918 pandemic, the highest death rates could actually be those between the ages of 20 and 40. In the months of September to October 1918, 7 % of the residents of Boston between 20 and 40 years of age died.
How could individuals in the prime of their health be so susceptible to a disease? "It turns out that this virus multiplies very quickly in your body," Dr. Osterholm goes on to say. "The people who have the healthiest immune systems are the ones that succumb to the virus because their immune systems go into overdrive".
So you see - we have already had three BIRD flu strains come to America with disastrous results.
The bird flu is real and so are the dangers. What are we to do to protect our families as best we can? Here are a few steps to take now.
As with any pending disaster it pays to be prepared. The Bible in Proverbs tells us - the wise man sees the danger and plans for it. When it is hurricane season we stock up on a little extra food and water - just in case. We get life, car, house, medical and fire insurance - just in case and are thankful we don't have to use it. We should treat this possible threat with the same care, planning and prayer.
FOOD - Have a supply of non perishables on hand so that when the flu is making its rounds, you will not have to go to the store to purchase everyday grocery items. When I was a young girl living in Florida during the " Bay of Pigs", my family had a three months supply of food in the hall closet. Though we never used it for that reason, it was kept stocked and was used several times during hurricanes. Nothing was ever wasted and we used our stored food and rotated the supply. But instead of canned tuna, my family will have a good supply of BodyGize, Amino Tech and Powermeal. All can be taken with water for a meal replacements providing a good source of protein, amino acids and all around excellent nutrition. Plus JuvaPower, Wolfberry Crisp Bars and of course wolfberries and NingXia Red. If we have to, we will live on these products - far better than going grocery shopping with hundreds of infected people.
A favorite all natural sweetener at our house is the Blue Agave Nectar. This golden liquid from the cactus is just as sweet as sugar in taste, but with a glycemic index of 11 - beats even honey and maple syrup as a healthy alternative to sugar. With a good supply of whole grains, you can whip up all sorts of delicious and nutritious breads, pancakes, muffins and such.
When eating vegetables or a salad, add a clove or two of raw garlic for added protection against germs. Garlic is a well-known anti-viral and anti-bacterial herb. Are you into skipping meals? Well you shouldn't. When you need a quick meal, try a green drink that you can make yourself with a juicer and fresh vegetables or add 1 heaping tablespoon of a nutritional green drink like Juva Power to your favorite juice. Get in the habit of carrying NingXia Red sample packs in your purse for a quick pick-me-up on the go. Use your essential oils to spice up your food and add not just great taste, but fantastic health benefits as well.
ELIMINATION - To help your body defend itself, it is important to be able to get rid of accumulated waste and toxins. This is done primarily through the intestinal tract. The colon often becomes over burdened during the cooler months as we gravitate to the warming soups and stews that are void of digestive enzymes and good fiber. Make it a habit to consume plenty of raw high fiber foods daily, especially with your cooked meals. For maintaining good bowel movements, add a capsule or two of Comfortone to heal and restore proper bowel movement -not a habit forming laxative, but rather all natural fiber, herbs, enzymes and oils that clean and heal the intestinal tract.
WATER - Not much does a body better than fresh pure water. If you are still drinking tap water - STOP. Tests from municipal water supplies around the country show toxins such as fecal matter, bacteria, prescription drug residue, chemicals and much more are increasing at an alarming rate. At least get a sink or pitcher style filter for your drinking, cooking and teeth brushing water. Recent research has revealed that brushing your teeth with an unsanitary toothbrush lengthens the time a person stays sick. Studies also show a link between tooth and gum health and heart disease. All the more reason to use a toothpaste with added essential oils, - Dentarome Plus or Dentarome Ultra, or drop a bit of Thieves, Peppermint or even Lemon oil directly onto your tooth brush for an exhilarating and cleansing experience. If your water is questionable, then use the H2Oil packets to infuse your water with oils.
AIR & ENVIRONMENT - Our houses stay closed much of the cold season with the heat or fireplace warming the home, and in the summers with air-conditioning. Keeping things so tightly closed, keeps the old stale air in for breathing and re-breathing. If someone is even a little under the weather, the air they exhale will be full of germs, now out there for everyone else to breath. An essential oil diffuser with oils such as lemon, eucalyptus, orange, grapefruit, or blends like Purification, Citrus Fresh, Christmas Spirit and Thieves, will help to kill airborne germs and keep the house smelling fresh. Be sure to take advantage of the not so cold/hot days when the doors and windows can be opened and exchange the old air for some fresh air. How about the countertops in the kitchen and bathroom - a virtual breeding and spreading ground for germs! Not with Thieves concentrated cleaner, wipes and spray. Carry the wipes or spray with you in your purse for door knobs, handles, grocery cart handles, toilet sets and any surface hundreds of others may touch with who knows what. Don't forget that any of the oils from Young Living can be made into a cleaner. Just fill a spray bottles with ½ water, ¼ alcohol and ¼ vegetable glycerin. Add 30 drops per pint of the oils. Shake, spray and wipe.
EXERCISE - Get moving, just 20 to 30 minutes per day for at least three days per week will get the blood moving, which helps carry away toxins and brings proper nutrients to the cells. It also keeps the lymphatic vessels moving out waste. Where there is good blood flow there will be no stagnation. A stagnant pond breeds bacteria, algae and starves the water of oxygen with an ultimate end of death. Don't let your blood become a stagnant swamp. A brisk walk in the afternoon sun, work in the garden or yard - pulling, planting, chopping, or if you prefer to stay indoors, put in an exercise video and get moving!
There is currently no Avian flu vaccine and according to most reports, one is not likely to be ready anytime soon. Most certainly we will have to rely on our own alternative health products as the Asian flu vaccine - when ready - is being made for medical, law-enforcement and government personnel. Regardless of the Asian flu scare, if you are like my family, we do not take the flu shots anyway, instead we follow these steps to strengthen the immune system and protect ourselves not just from the flu ,but coughs, sore throats and the common cold.
SUPPLIMENTATION - Target your supplementation program to kill the germs and support your immune system. Our family takes the following approach to staying well. Should the bird flu get to America-we will increase our consumption of the following:
1. We take a broad spectrum all natural multiple vitamin mineral supplement with added enzymes and essential oils for greater absorption -Master Hers/His. We also take Vita-Green an essential oil packed green food supplement - high protein, high energy chlorophyll formula to invigorate the cell. For enzymes we take Detoxzyme each AM and PM, EssentialZyme as directed before eating or with meals, Allerzyme as directed and anytime we eat a carbohydrate - especially bread as the added phytase breaks down the phytic acid found in whole grains that can make them difficult to digest and thought to chelate other beneficial minerals from the grain. Alkalime in the evening to create an alkaline environment - one where germs do not like to live. Sulfurzyme is a great immune system strengthener - giving you much the same sulfur benefits as garlic.
2. We drink the world's best antioxidant, NingXia Red to crush free radicals in their tracts, and to boost the immune system. Our office is getting several testimonies daily about the incredible results people receive with this product. Tests by Brunswick Labs confirm - there is NO other juice or supplement on the market today that is better!!!
3. We daily take a variety of essential oils internally. Thieves, Oregano, Mt.Savory, Lemon and Frankincense are routinely part of our regimen, with others added depending on the need. For viral conditions add - Melissa, Ravensara Lemongrass, Thyme and Mt.Savory. *Only use Young Living Essential Oils internally, no other brand! Make sure you have some Agave or empty capsules on hand as some oils - just do not taste that great.
4. We boost our immune system specifically with the following:
ImmuneTune - a super antioxidant complex is especially helpful at the first sign of illness. Curcuminoids, essential oils, herbals, nutritionals, all designed to stop the spread of illness within the body.
Exodus - supercharged with essential oils, this botanical and nutritional blend provides important immune system support.
ImmuPro - chewable, power-packed immune stimulant with wolfberry, beta glucans, medicinal mushrooms, essential oils.
NingXia Red - at least three ounces per day.
Ultra Young Spray with DHEA - don't just turn back the aging clock - be your healthy best. Cancer patients always test low for DHEA. A spray a day just might keep the doctor away.
ImmuPower Oil blend helps the body regulate the immune system. Wear on chest and feet. **In my opinion this oil will be one of our most important weapons!!! Re-read what Dr. Osterholm said - an immune system in overdrive could actually hurt you.
Make yourself a nose blend. The nose is where most germs get into the body - you breathe them in through the nose. A great way to stop them is with a nose ointment. You can create your personal favorite using Rose Ointment and the oils of your choice. Easiest way is to take a small glass dish and spoon about a tablespoon of Rose ointment into it. Set in hot sun for a few minutes and it will melt, using a hot mitt, carry back inside. Add 6 drops of the oils you choose. Pour into a small container. Every morning, use a cotton swab and apply a small amount to the inside of your nose. Only a little is needed.
For added protection against illness, apply a few drops of essential oil to the bottom of the feet in the morning and evening - ImmuPower, Oregano, Thieves, Peace & Calming, are good choices.
While you may not need to take everything listed above, if you will equip yourself now with some of these powerful illness fighters and start taking the immune system boosters now - then if the flu, the cough, cold or sore throat comes into your house - you can kick him out fast!!!!!
SO - the choice is yours - optimal health and wellness with a little prevention or sickness, fatigue, maybe even death just taking a chance. Make good health a priority and equip your household to be ready. Now would be a great time to get that much desired Aroma Kit with all the oils to have on hand, or maybe clean out a shelf or cupboard and start buying a little extra - so you'll be ready. Get a copy of the Essential Oils Desk Refernce guide book so you will know all the many ways to use the oils and products you have on hand. You can be sure that as prepared as Gary Young will have the company, there will certainly be shortages of some products and shipping delays with freight company workers out ill - don't wait to the last minute to get prepared. As the old saying goes
- An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
Have a great day! Debra Raybern
by building a big cage around it and preventing wild birds from flying in and out," U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Michael Johanns said. U.S.spy satellites are tracking the infected flocks, which started in Asia and are now heading north to Siberia and Alaska, where they will soon mingle with flocks from the North American flyways. "What we're watching in real time is evolution," said Laurie Garrett, a senior fellow for global health at the Council on Foreign Relations. "And it's a biological process, and it is, by definition, unpredictable."
Can It Be Stopped? Even on a model farm, ABC News saw a pond just outside the protected barns attracting wild geese. It is the droppings of infected waterfowl that carry the virus. The bird flu virus, to date, has rarely been transmitted to humans. There have been lots of dead birds on three continents, but so far, fewer than 100 reported human deaths. Compare that to more than 30,000 deaths each year in the United Statesfrom seasonal flu. Should that change, the spread could be rapid. ABC News has obtained a mathematical projection prepared by federal scientists based on an initial outbreak on an East Coast chicken farm. Within three months, with no vaccine, almost half of the country would have the flu. That, of course, is a worst-case scenario -- but one that cannot be completely discounted. The current bird flu strain has been around for at least 10 years and has taken surprising twists and turns -- not the least of which is that it's now showing up in cats in Europe, where officials are advising owners to bring their cats inside. It's advice that might soon have to be considered here.
School and work absenteeism will be at an all time high during a flu pandemic The US Government recently advised school districts to have a "plan" in place should a pandemic occur. Just think of the economic impact something like this would have - for every child out of school home sick, a parent will most likely be home also, cutting America's work force by millions.
Not exactly what you would call good news. While no one is saying when this particular flu will arrive, all experts agree that it will - sooner or later.
The best defense is really a good offense, and that starts with education.
Influenza is a viral infection that causes a fever, runny nose, cough, headache, a feeling of illness and inflammation of the nose and airways. The flu season generally runs from October through May with the height of the season about mid January.
Symptoms start about 24-48 hours after you become infected and can begin suddenly with chills as the initial indication of a flu. Temperatures may rise to 102 to 103 degrees. Most people feel sufficiently ill to stay in bed. In healthy individuals most symptoms will completely subside after about day five, but many will try to return to regular activity after the fever passes in about 2-3 days. Deaths occur when complications center in the respiratory system, mainly the lungs with breathing difficulty. Severe cases are on ventilators to assist in breathing. A typical flu season kills 36,000 people every year and the very young and the very old are most at risk "because they are the ones that are most vulnerable to infectious diseases."
Influenza is classified as type A or B. Type B is the one we usually experience year to year, and while many people die from complications of Type B flu, the deadly flu is the A type. Infected birds shed influenza virus in their saliva, nasal secretions and feces. Humans caring for these birds touch the contaminated birds and contract the virus.
● The 1918 "Spanish bird flu" was the worst epidemic the UShas ever known. This type A (H1N1) caused the most deaths ever counted related to the influenza - 500,000 in the US
